This is a photo of Bottenviken in the far north of the Baltic Sea. The Swedish cities of Luleå and Piteå can be seen on the left half of the photo with land-fast ice among the inlets and islands along the coast. The right half of the photo is dominated by drift ice floating in the bay and breaking up as the spring melt begins. The photo was taken by NASA’s Landsat 8 satellite on April 19, 2021.
