Ethel Spowers (1890–1947) was an Australian artist known for her linocut prints, a technique where the artist carves her artwork into a sheet of linoleum which is used to make prints. The gently curving lines which create a feeling of rhythmic motion in Giant stride are typical of Spowers’ art. Pepperholm’s art print is a reproduction of the original linocut print.
